Infection prevention and control is a complex and rapidly changing field, and practice requires a broad knowledge base for effective practice. IP competency and in-depth expertise are crucial to the success of the individual infection preventionist and to the effectiveness of infection prevention programs. IP&MA provides educational programs in a variety of formats to help your team meet your training and education needs.

Infection Preventionist Training

We have programs to help individual IPs and IP teams build knowledge and skills to effectively manage your infection prevention program. Most courses are available in both asynchronous or live cohort formats, and continuing education credits may be available.

Courses for IP training include:

  • Infection Preventionist Fundamentals

    Access our catalog of topic specific infection prevention classes. Each module covers content and skills critical to infection prevention practice. The course combines asynchronous webinars, reading assignments with knowledge verification, access to individualized coaching, and opportunities to apply and practice knowledge and skills.

  • Infection Prevention Competency

    This course is designed to satisfy initial competencies for the new infection preventionist and geared toward completion within the first 90 days in the role. This course includes asynchronous training modules and webinars, reading assignments with knowledge verification, and access to a certified infection preventionist for skill validation.

  • Certification Readiness

    This takes the IP from skill building to readiness for the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology infection control certification (CIC). This course includes asynchronous training modules, study and practice guides, and the opportunity to take a practice exam. A certification readiness assessment is also available to help IPs target their preparation activities in areas of highest need.

Staff Training

Accreditation and regulatory organization detail infection prevention and education that is required. And ongoing training helps build staff skill and reinforce compliance with expected infection prevention processes. We can help you plan and build a training plan that meets your needs for healthcare staff within your organization.

Staff training may include:

  • Development of new employee orientation and annual education targeted to your organization’s goals

  • Staff education in response to survey fallouts or recommendations for improvement

  • Development of competencies for infection prevention and control skills

  • Self-paced study guides individualized to the facility

  • Infection prevention skill training workshops

  • Training can be virtual or in-person based on organizational needs, and courses may include continuing education credits
